We invite submissions of writing and visual art to the second edition of Gabble; a magazine of art criticism to be published at 7pm on Thursday the 4th of June 2026 at FILET Gallery, London alongside a show featuring the included artists. The magazine will include 10 pieces of art criticism paired with images of the work it responds to. This work will also be displayed in the gallery on the night of publication and for subsequent days.
Deadline: 1st of March 2026
We are interested in the relationships between writers and artists. Submit a piece of art criticism up to 3000 words (or a pitch and writing sample) that responds to the work of someone you know (a friend, an enemy, a lover). Upload in a PDF that also includes a short bio and your instagram handle or website.
Interpret 'art criticism' broadly - we will accept interviews with artists, theoretical essays and reviews along with poetry and fiction as long as it responds directly to an artwork or artistic practice,. Keep art-speak to a minimum, we prefer juicy writing over polished writing.
We will pay writers between £30 - £90.
You do not need to obtain the artists permission to submit writing about them. We will contact the artist if your piece if chosen for publication and ask for their permission to publish images of their work if you have not already done so. They do not need to submit a separate application to be considered.
Submit up to 10 images of recent work in one PDF alongside a short statement, bio and your instagram handle or website. Alternatively, just submit a link to your website if you feel that it adequately acts as a portfolio.
If these are chosen for publication, we will commission a writer to produce a piece responding to your work or to interview you. We would prefer that this be someone you know, so feel free to make suggestions alongside your submission. Their writing will be published alongside images of your work. You will also be invited to display your work at a group show at FILET Gallery (opening 4th June).
If you would like to be included but do not have publication suitable images, please submit anyway and we may be able to arrange to have some photos produced. We are also very interested to see images of you e.g. working in your studio (although there is no obligation to submit these).
There is a submission fee of £7 for both artists and writers. This allows us to pay contributors. If this fee is a barrier to submitting, please send us an email and we will waive it (no proof required).
